Angela Lee Duckworth said during this TED Talk:
"I was firmly convinced that every one of my students could learn the material if they worked long and hard enough." I believe that this is entirely true.
I believe that even if you don't have a score of 200 or 150 for your IQ, you can still do amazingly in life if you have the grit and determination to never stop trying and work your hardest.
If you have a very high IQ, but no grit, then you will not do as well as the high-achievers who have a lesser IQ but work hard.
I know people who have next to no grit, and they usually don't get good grades, or do well in school (just saying, it is nobody anybody here would know, so don't worry.)
I completely agree with Angela Lee Duckworth. I believe that we should find a better understanding of grit, and how determined students are. I hope that I am seen as someone with a good amount of grit, and I can name people in our class who have work outstandingly...

“Grit is passion and perseverance for very long-term goals.” I think that is very true. Grit takes work; it will not come to you easily. “Grit is stamina.” You need to build it up bit by bit for a successful future. Just as organization or self regulation is important, grit is right up there with those traits and ones like them. “Grit is living life like it’s a marathon, not a sprint.” I think that grit takes a self motivated person who wants to try their best always or a good chunk of the time.

I agree with this person. Grit or determination is very important in school work. I also think that it is important in out of school activities. In synchro, grit is REALLY important.
I also think that to be successful, you have to practice. Practice, grit and confidence are the keys to being successful (to me at least). Practice because you actually have to know what you're doing and be familiar with it, grit because you have to be determined to get this, and confidence because you have to be confident that you are going to do well, and you will do well.

“Grit is living life like it is a marathon, not a sprint (3:27)”
My opinion on success is that anyone can succeed but not everyone can get the best result they can. The reason they can’t get the best result is that they are not determined to do their best, so they will not get their best.
Grit is not something that you are born with and cannot learn, it is something that you have to work with over and over and over again. Some people may have better IQ than others but that will not mean anything if they don’t have any GRIT or DETERMINATION.

My opinion on grit and success, is that it is waaaaaaaay more important than being smart, and if you aren’t very gritty but you’re very smart, you won’t do very well in school, or in life. I think one of the most important traits for a smart person to have, or just for a person in general to have. I think that if we were all super gritty, then everyone would be happy, and never get upset when they don’t do well on something, and just keep on trying.

I think that grit really helps with success, because “everyone could learn the material if they worked hard and long enough”. Everyone can do whatever they want if they really tried. “What if doing well in school and in life depends on much more than your ability to learn quickly and easily”. What that quote means is though you can learn every topic quickly, if you don’t try to do the stuff given to you, you won’t do well.
The thing is, I had grit in every class (though I though I didn’t need it) before here except for one. My mom said to me that if you don’t try, you’ll get behind in everything. Now, I’m one of those people who have to try everything for myself, so for the time I went to school to the time I got my report card, I sort of goofed off, and didn’t do my work as well as I usually did. When the report card came out, I was one of the people at the bottom of my class. I really panicked, and it took me literally the rest of the year to catch up with the rest of my classmates, so if you think “Oh, I’ll only do it for this week. It won’t be too hard to catch up,” you’ve got another thought coming.
If you don’t have grit in any of your classes, no matter how smart you are, you won’t get too far; in school or in life; “It turns out, gritter kids were significantly more likely to graduate (high school).”

I agree with Angela that grit is a very important key to success. A world without grit or determination or persistence, is a world where everyone gives up or doesn’t try their best, it’s a world I don’t want to live in. The reason grit is so important is because it helps you to stand back up again when you fall. If everyone didn’t try again when they failed, where would the world be? I wouldn’t be typing on this computer, I know that for sure.
A person without grit is someone who doesn’t put in a lot of effort into what they do, they usually don’t finish activities until the last minute, or they start something and never finish it. I will admit that, sometimes, I don’t show as much grit as I have in me. I used to not really finish the things I would start, but now I think I have changed a lot and developed more grit than I used to have.
No matter how high your IQ is, if you don’t put in effort, you aren’t any better than kids with lower IQ than you.
Angela believes that “grit is living life like it's a marathon, not a sprint.” I believe Angela as well and I think, if everyone tries hard and puts in effort, not matter how low or high their IQ is, they’ll go very far in the long run.

My opinion on grit and success is that "IQ is not the only difference." It doesn't matter if one person has and IQ of 150, and the other has an IQ of 80, if the person with the IQ of 80 has the most grit and determination, that person will do better. If someone fails and they don't have grit and determination, their failure will
make them give up. But, if someone fails and has lots of grit and determination, they will never give up and keep on going. So, grit and determination, is very important in life, so never lose it, and always use it.

I think grit is the key to success. Sure it helps if you’re smart or organized, but none of those will be able to help you if you don’t posses grit. Grit means:
‘courage and resolve; strength of character. "he displayed the true grit of the navy pilot" ‘
(In my opinion, thats a word used to describe ‘Tris’ from Divergent.)
Having grit means, you try and be optimistic about things; have the determination to (keep calm and*) carry on.
In the video, Angela talked about how she got in a group, and went to study people in certain places, such as: spelling bees, military schools and other things.
They wanted to see, what all these people had in common, that allowed them success. I could see why grit would be needed in the military, for you have to have courage to face the enemy. In spelling bees, you would need to keep at it for a long time and study before hand. These people truly deserve success.
The world might be pushing you down, but you get right back up and try your hardest.
That’s what I think about grit. It’s there, to keep you there and keep you going.

*You don’t necessarily need to keep calm, though.

“I was convinced that every one of my students could get the materials if they worked hard enough” it very true and I strongly support that quote. If everyone didn’t care about if they succeeded or not, they wouldn’t try very hard, leading them to failure. We could all succeed in all our classes if we put 100% effort into everything we do.

“In all those very different contexts, it wasn't social intelligence.. and it wasn’t IQ, it was grit… Grit is living life like a marathon, not a sprint.” I think this is a very good quote because if you have a goal, then you should be putting all your effort in achieving it! For example, I had a goal when I first started karate (six years old) to get my black belt and I’m already halfway to achieving that one!

“It turns out, gritter kids were significantly more likely to graduate” is very true because like I said before, if you work hard you can get very far in academics, and in life! All these skills (not just grit, but kindness and empathy) are not just taught to us because the teachers feel like it, we need these skills in everyday life.

Basically, I think determination is one of the most important traits for succeeding in life.

I also agree with Beth that you have to be confident in what you do, and repeat in your head in time of doubt "I can do this!"

Angela Lee Duckworth said "Grit is living life like it is a marathon, not a sprint". Grit is stamina and determination to do something. it does not matter how smart you are to have grit. I think girt is a good way to success. it shows you can work hard and don't give up on something.Relating on my earlier post on the Sochi Olympics comment for PG and moms when you fail you try and try again until you get it. It does not matter what IQ you have. People in this class could be very smart but have no grit where people in a normal class could not be super smart but have a lot of grit.

People that have grit usually do better then people that don't have grit. Think about it this way: people that don't have grit do not try their best ,and if you have grit your are trying your very hardest. Overall I really agree with her. Everything she said is true. Hard work Determination and Grit are a perfect path to success.

Well first of all, how do you achieve something. People think you need talent; to do something better than anyone else. Well that’s important but to even have a talent you need grit. People weren't born smart or athletic. To achieve something you need grit. Even the most talented people won’t achieve in life because they don’t have grit.

Grit is when you see things in a positive way. When you have determination, when you have a good grip of something. When you don’t give up. When you fail you just keep going. When you “are living life as a marathon, not a sprint.” Grit is a psychological trait.

I guess it’s like there is a wall that at the other side there is something that you want. The non-gritty ones would just give up and not even try to get through the wall and and standing there like the wall will split in half and let them come through. Which is not going to happen. But the gritty people would try and try and won’t give up. and then you get to the other side of the wall and get what you want. Gritty people want to be a somebody, not a nobody. If at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again. That is what gritty people do.

I think to have a talent, you need to have grit. Talent is about practice. Talent takes effort. You have to practise it. If you want to do well at a sport, you have to practice it. How did that person get so good at hitting a baseball or writing a book. One word: Grit.

Singers, athletes, authors and other people got that far because they have grit. They could get through those obstacles. Life is like a road trip. When you crash into another car, or have an accident, that symbolizes your mistakes, failures. The gritty people keep on going. You see, there is a job for everyone, the less gritty ones can work at the dump and get two cents and up there you can get more. But what is the ladder up there. Grit. But a question still remains unanswered. How do you teach grit. That is a question we have to find an answer. Just as the poster thing with the basketball at the front of the class, “Success is measured by effort.”

Angela Duckworth said that grit and determination are very important. I agree with her, I think that grit is important in any type of work. In work, you have to be patient, work hard and be consistent. Grit is sticking with the same thing for long times. Being gritty and concentrated will help you A LOT. As she said, if a person has a high IQ, and you do not work hard, people with lower IQ will surpass you. I have seen lots of people that are very gritty and determined. Grit is a major factor in many people's successes.
