The Underground Railroad was an Undergroud passage that connected places like Bufalo, New York, Boston, Massachusets and Chicago Illinois to places in Canada such as Toronto, Windsor and Pickering, Ontario. The main purpose of the Underground Railroad was for African-American people who were slaves in the USA to come across the border without being caught to Canada where they had more rights. There is not a for sure number of slaves who crossed, but some people think it would have been close to 30 000. The people crossing had code words for words like a person who guided you to where you wanted to go would be a "conductor" and the people crossing would be called "cargo" or "passengers". There was also stops where you could rest after a long day called "stations".

The Underground Railroad was a passage that was used by black slaves to escape from slavery and go to canada and find refuge there. this was very good because canada had no laws against escaped slaves or anything like that. many escaped slaves could not live well in canada, even with their own homes and money. they needed to take care of their family which was hard.

The underground railroad was a bunch of safe houses and secret routes through the US to Canada and other places where slavery was illegal. A very important railroad helper was Harriet Tubman who made 13 trips to the south and saved over 70 people from being slaves. Even though it is called the Underground Railroad it was not underground or a railroad. There where more than 30, 000people who escaped to Canada via the Underground Railroad. I think that the sheer ammounts of people who escaped is amazing but i also think that only 1000 people a year would have made it hard to do. I also think that the bravery of the slaves is impresive because if you got caught you where likely to be beaten.

The Underground Railroad was a connection of routes and few tunnels. These 'railroads' were escape routes for black slaves in the U.S. There were over 30 000 slaves that where recorded to have escaped. The UnderGround Railroad was mostly barns an safehouses only a small part of these passages where underground. To escape the slavery was not an easy task. They had to escape there slaveholders and find there way to a pathway. At each station which where usually spaced about 10 to 20 miles away where barns or areas where the slaves could rest and be fed during the day becuase they traveled at night. At each station was a Conducter which would lead them to the next stations and inform the next station of coming slaves.

The Underground Railroad is something that black slaves in the USA can escape to Canada or other USA free states.
When the American Civil war between North and South America many black slaves and free people left to fight.
Some destinations for the Underground Railroad are Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Ontairio, and Quebec.
5 Facts I Found Interesting.
1. The Underground Railroad is something where slaves escape to free countries or free states.
2. Less than 1,000 slaves escaped each year thoung the railroad.
3. Other than traveling on train they traveled on foot or animals.
I will copy and paste to continue.

The Underground Railroad was a network of secret tunnels and safe houses for African-American slaves to become free people in places like Canada, some states and sometimes faraway places like Mexico and some destinations overseas. An estimated 30 000 people are believed to have escaped the railroad. Here are 5 facts I found interesting:
1. Only 1 000 slaves escaped each year. It's a lot, but for the number of African-American slaves, it isn't.
2. It wasn't underground, or a railroad!
3. There are three main people who helped the slaves:
Harriet Tubman, and Levi and Catherine Coffin.
4. William Still, aka 'Father of The Underground Railroad' helped as many as 60 slaves a month escape through the tunnels.
5. There is just over 5 000 court cases on escaped slaves recorded. Sometimes people would bribe the judge into proving the slave guilty!

The Underground Railroad was a passage used by African American slaves trying to cross the border from the United States to Canada in order to become free people. They travelled to areas in Ontario such as Windsor, Chatham, St. Catherines and Dawn. They also travelled from the New England area and went to Nova Scotia and New Brunswick as well as Quebec. Slaves had to adapt and provide for themselves, things like clothing and food were provided during their slavery, yet these items were often poor quality.
Once across the border, they could even buy land and vote, they could choose where they lived and they could choose their job and occupation.

Slaves crossed Lake Ontario, LaKe Erie and Lake Huron to get to Canada.

Slaves crossed by boat from New England to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

The Underground Railroad got its name because "underground" meant secret or unknown, while "railroad" meant a series of safe houses along the route to Canada.

Slaves also escaped to Mexico and overseas.

There are only estimated numbers for the amount of slaves who escaped but it is believed to be more than 100,000.
