Kinetic Sand

Watch the above video.  I would like to order some of this interesting sand.  Can you find out what it is composed of and if not, what do you think it might be made out of? (Including proportions)
Post your responses.

That is so cool!

According to http://goo.gl/800cQI, Kinetic Sand is "Made out of 98% pure sand and 2% non-toxic polymer".
According to http://goo.gl/GOxihB, it is made of silicon dioxide and polydimethyl siloxane. The site presumes that the silicon dioxode is 98% and the polydimethyl siloxane is the other 2%. Polydimethyl siloxane is a "key ingredient in Silly Putty."

Well, it said in the video "98% real sand" and is 2% non-toxic polymer.
Here are some interesting facts:
•Non-toxic and gluten-free
•Never dries out
•No fluid within, so no place for bacteria to grow
•Sticks to itself for easy cleanup
•Exceeds all US and European safety standards
•Comes in a box measuring 7.5" x 3.5" x 2.5" (L x W x D) with 2.2 pounds of sand
•Made in Sweden
(I got this information from http://www.arktherapeutic.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=ATSI&Product_Code=WFKineticAR&Affiliate=toysaretools)

I think that this sand would be cool too. I think that you should order some of this sand. I think it would be a hit in class (at least for me :P).

There is a link on the Kinetic Sand website to a safety data sheet for it that lists the composition as 98% silicon dioxide (sand) and 2% polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS)(https://www.dropbox.com/s/05bt15rarteiktq/MSDSKineticLQ.pdf).

There is an interesting Wikipedia article about PDMS that says that it is used as an ingredient in McDonald's french fries and Chicken McNuggets (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydimethylsiloxane).

It is made up of 98% real sand and is 2% non-toxic polymer according to the video and from this site: http://www.kineticsand.com.au/pages/about-us it is made up of 98 percent sand and 2 percent magic, and I am guessing magic is the non-toxic polymer.
Also according to this site: http://geekologie.com/2013/09/kinetic-sand-98-sand-2-silly-putty-ingre.php, it is 98 percent and 2 percent silly putty ingredients.

Interesting comments. I know the video mentioned 2% non-toxic polymer, but I thought some of you may search further and find out exactly what that might be.
Also, the McDonald's information is interesting. Why do you suppose they use polydimethyl siloxane (PDMS)in their french fries and chicken nuggets?

It's made of 98% sand and 2% silly putty ingredients

It looks as though PDMS helps with texture and stickyness in making food like Chicken McNuggets. Here is a short presentation about PDMS:

Made out of 98% pure sand,2% non-toxic polymer, silicon dioxid" [sic] and "polydimethyl siloxane. That is what I guess that makes it like playdoughand the goo that we made.

THANK YOU FOR THE LINKS!
That sand is really cool and looks like fun!I found out that it's 15$ for 2.30 lbs.

It is made of 2% non-toxic polymer, a silcon-based organic polymer...particularly known for its unusual rheological (or flow) properties." It makes the sand act...weird.
I think that you should definitley order some of that sand, and bring it in to show the class!

There were 2 good sites that I could find, and both of them had different info-

1. 98% Pure Sand, 2% Non-Toxic Polymer

Site- http://goo.gl/800cQI

2. 98% Silicon Dioxide, 2% Polydimethyl Siloxane (what a Mouthful.

Quick Note: Polymedithyl Siloxane is a important ingredient in 'Silly Putty.'

wow that is so cool!!
according to a website I found this information "98% pure sand and 2% Polydimethyl siloxane" now this is interesting (like Kathrine said) is a key ingredient in silly putty. I also checked out the link that Sara posted (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polydimethylsiloxane) was interesting that processed foods like that can have Polydimethyl siloxane in it (i don't know how I feel about that)

I don't know what any of these things are.
