Hana's Suitcase - Final Activity

Do you know if anything was found inside Hana's suitcase?  If not, what do you think she would have taken with her when she had to escape?
Imagine you are able to place 6 items in Hana's suitcase (for her).  Not including clothing.  What would you put in her suitcase? Explain why.
Post your responses.

I would pack Hana:
1. Steak and potatoes (lot's of It)
2. dynamite/explosives (lot's of it)
3. Matches
4. Pictures of her family
5. A radio
6. toys
I know the dynamite part is a little dangerous but it might help to get out of the ghetto. That's what I would pack for Hana

I would most likely pack Hana: her skates, some food, a family picture, some flowers from her garden, her favourite toy and a good luck charm.
these are the items I think she will need to get by aunt and uncles house or even at a ghetto/concentration camp

I don't know what was found inside Hana's suitcase, but I think she would have took 2 loaves of bread, maybe a pencil and paper, toys to keep her entertained, and also a picture of her mother or father to remember them because the Nazis took her parents.

If I had the same life as Hana, I would take these things in my suitcase: 1 loaf of bread to eat, 1 pack of milk, juice or water to drink, a pencil and paper to write to someone, a picture to remember my parents if they were taken away, and the last thing I would take is something to entertain me when i'm bored.

DYNAMITE! WHY?

I don’t know if anything was found in Hana’s suitcase, but I don’t think that there would be a lot in the suitcase, because she didn’t get to take a lot with her. I think there might have been clothes, soap, a water container and maybe a bit of food.

If I could put any 6 items in Hana’s suitcase, not including clothes, I would put:

- food
- shoes
- a full water container
- a soldiers costume to help her escape the ghetto
- roller skates for when she gets tired of running from the ghetto
- a book for entertainment

Part 1: I know that nothing was found inside the suitcase when it reached the Small Wings center because it was a replica of the actual suitcase that was destroyed in a fire. I think that Hana probably would have packed clothing, food, maybe some photographs, and some water.
Part 2: If I was packing Hana's suitcase I would pack:
1. food and water
2. some photographs of her family
3. one or two of her toys
4. some paper and crayons
5. a Swiss army knife (you never know when it will be handy)
6. a hair brush
That is what I would pack for Hana.

Nothing was found inside Hana's suitcase. I think she would've taken the same things that I list below.

I would put in a large loaf of bread, some meat, some vegetables, a huge holder-thingy of water, a photo of her and her family and a knife.

No i do not think that anything was in Hana's suitcase. I think she would have gotten things to pack like the following, probaly food, water, a blanket to keep herself warm, and other things to survive. I also think she would bring something to draw on ( in the story it says that she likes to draw).

These are six things that I would give Hana if I could

-Some food and water

- a blanket to keep her warm

Ronan
- a toy to keep her entertaimed
- something to draw on
- a note from me ( so I could tell her what to do and tell her that I wasthe person who gave her this stuff
- I would give her one of my books to read

Q: Do you know if anything was found inside Hana's suitcase? If not, what do you think she would have taken with her when she had to escape?
A: I think that when they opened the suitcase they found nothing. I think that she would have had: Clothes, Food, Water, one of her dolls (it said in the story), photos (they also said that in the story).

Q: Imagine you are able to place 6 items in Hana's suitcase (for her). Not including clothing. What would you put in her suitcase? Explain why.
A: I would put food so they can eat (they didn’t get food at concentration camps), toys and pictures to remember all the good times she had, the brown heart that her mother gave her to remember her mother, water to survive and something to entertain her! That is what I would put if I were her!

First of all nothing was found in Hana's suitcase. What I think she would have put in her suitcase is food, medicine (maybe), and clothes (shirt, pants, skirt, shoes). If I could put 6 items in her suitcase I would first of all put in some food so she could eat, some water so she could stay hydrated, a family picture so she could remember her family, a sleeping bag just in case, some paper pencil and crayons so she could draw what she was feeling, and some medicine to stay healthy. That is what I would put in Hana's suitcase if I could put 6 items.

Dynamite, and lots of it!? Why would anyone need lots of dynamite?

It says in the book: Hana's Suitcase, that nothing was found inside of her suitcase, when they found her suitcase (Wow, what a tongue twister!). I think that she would have taken some food, some pictures of her family, and some clothes, too.

If I had to choose six things to place inside of Hana’s suitcase, I would choose:

1. Food
2. Toys
3. Family Pictures
4. Something that makes her happy no matter what
5. Dynamite
6. Something to keep her safe, for when the dynamite explodes

I would choose these six items, because, she would need food, to keep her alive, and keep her healthy. She would also need toys, to keep her happy, and playing, and maybe if she took some toy, like a skipping rope, stay fit. I would pack her family pictures, because if she starts to feel sad or alone, or homesick, then all she would have to do, is look at the pictures, and then she’ll feel better. I don’t know what I would pack for something that kept her happy, no matter what, but I think that she could use it a lot, and it would make her happy. I would pack her dynamite, because, she could use it to escape the concentration camp, and #6 is to keep her safe, for when it explodes.

If I were packing Hana’s suitcase for her, and I could only put 6 things in it, I would put:

1. First aid kit

2. A picture of her family

3. One of her favorite small items from her house, like a small toy, necklace or something of her mother’s/brother’s/father’s/etc.

4. Something that reminds her of home (like a picture or a leaf of a plant in her back yard)

5. Pocket knife (w. lighter, knife, nail file, etc.)

6. Edible/drinkable stuff

She would use the food/water to eat/drink. The picture of her family is to remind her of them. The small item and/or the thing that reminds her of home is to remind her of the good times, and how the bad times would be over soon. The pocket knife has useful things that she could use to escape/survive. She could use the first aid kit to heal herself and others.

There was nothing inside her suitcase when it was found. She probably put candy, a toy or two, candles (maybe) and something that might remind her of home/family.

I think her suitcase had nothing in it when the museum got the suitcase, all it had on it was the writing, but I think she might have packed some clothes, some food, and maybe a toy or two.

Imagine you are able to place 6 items in Hana's suitcase (for her). Not including clothing. What would you put in her suitcase? Explain why.

If I packed Hana’s escape suitcase for her, I would pack:

- A small paper bag of food

- Hana’s special toy or blanket (if she had one, if not, I would make her a doll, like my green fluffy one.) She would be going through tough times, so a doll or something to hug. I would give her a hug too, but I wouldn’t fit in the suitcase.

- I would give her a book, one of her favourites, in the suitcase.

- I would knit her a nice sweater for the trip.

- A picture of her family

- One of those cool tools where it has a spoon, fork, knife, and corkscrew all folded into one little pocket knife shape when it’s folded up. I would bring it to school to show you what I mean but first, I’m not allowed at school, and it’s my mom’s.

I do not think that there was anything found in Hana’s suitcase because in the book, Hana’s Suitcase, it says that the real suitcase got burned in a fire, so they made a model of it. If there was anything left anything in the suitcase, I think there would probably be some clothes, shoes, and pictures of her family. Maybe there would be some of her stuffed animals, or dolls (toys).

If I had to place 6 items for Hana in her suitcase when she escapes (not including clothing) I would pack a photo of her family because if she were to feel sad or lonely, she would be able to just pull out her picture of her family, and it would remind her of them.

The second item would probably have to be her favourite stuffed toy or doll. I would put that in there because, it’s always comforting to have a stuffed toy or one of your favourite toys with you when you feel sad, or like I said before, to remind her of her family back in the “good old days”.

The third and fourth item would have to be a pillow and a blanket. I would put that in Hana’s suitcase because I remember in the story, Hana’s Suitcase, the beds (in the ghetto) were not that comfortable, and also, It was not that warm.

The fifth item I would pack for Hana would be a pocket knife. (that includes lighter, knife, scissors etc.) I would pack a pocket knife for her because those things always come in handy. Maybe for instance she wanted a make a fire to stay warm, or needs to cut something open immediately etc.

The last thing I would pack for her would be some type of survival kit. With like a first aid kit in it, and some food that would not go bad and lot's of water - really any type of thing that could help her to survive.
I would add that because, maybe If she secretly snuck out of the ghetto/concentration camp, Hana would need some kind of kit that would help her survive out in the wild by herself.(That goes the pocket knife too.) It would also help because Hana could use it help others, like her friends.

I don’t know that anything was found in Hana’s Suitcase because I’m pretty sure the one they received was actually a replica of the actual suitcase so there shouldn't be anything in there. I would imagine she would’ve packed some clothes and maybe a photo of her family to remind her of home.

If could pack Hana SIX things (not including clothes) I would pack her:

Some dried beef strips and crackers - I would pack her these things because she may need something to eat if she actually ends up escaping the camp and is on the run, these foods wouldn’t be very hearty but they don’t spoil for a while so they could be kept for a while which is good.

A first aid kit - It’s pretty obvious why I’d pack her this, it’s a concentration camp, most likely her or a friend of hers will be injured and this way she has a better chance of healing minor wounds.

A water bottle - I would fill this water bottle to the top and freeze it so it keeps cold. I would give her this because if she decides to escape the camp it may be tricky to find somewhere to get fresh water so I’d give her fresh, cold water.

A family photo - I would pack her this because in bad times she may need something to remind her of good times and something to tell her that things will get better, she just needs to hold on.

A pocket knife - Hey, you never know when you’ll need a knife. What if you or your friend is bound down by ropes? What if you need to attack/distract a Nazi? The possibilities are endless! The pocket knife would also have a lighter, this would be used mainly if she needs to light a fire for warmth or if she needs light somewhere dark but they could also be used to attack Nazis if necessary.

Full body armour including an amazing gas mask helmet - I know, I know, no clothes but I had to say this! A lot of people died by a gas chamber, but not with the amazing... GAS MASK!!!! And if they try to harm her, with guns, she could attack them with her knife, or lighter and they won’t put a scratch on her with her armour.

These are the things I’d pack in Hana’s Suitcase if I was incharge of that decision. Which I wasn’t. But if I was, she may have survived. Of course, only with the help of the amazing GAS MASK!! YAY GAS MASKS!

No, I don't know if anything was in Hana's suitcase.

I think she would have taken food, something that she can do when she's bored like a book or a
toy, clothes, a blanket and pillow and pictures of her family.

If I was able to place 6 items in Hana’s suitcase (for her), I would've put in:

1. A book or toy
2. A photo book filled with pictures of her family
3. Food and drinks
4. A warm blanket
5. A pocket knife
6. First aid kit

I do not think that anything was found in Hana’s suitcase. I also believe that the suitcase in the story “Hana’s Suitcase” was referring to was actually not the original, but a replica. I think that she would have taken (besides clothing) a favorite doll or stuffed animal, maybe a picture from her home of her family or parents, possibly a small toy, and some drawing/art (ish) supplies.

If I were to pack Hana’s suitcase with 6 things beside clothing, I would pack:
1) A picture of family/parents
This would help remind her of her family if she was scared or sad.

2) As much food as possible
This is rather self explanatory - Hana didn't really know where she was going and if there was food, so this would be a good thing to pack.

3) Emergency supplies
If Hana got a bad scrape, etc, it would be beneficial to have some disinfectant and a bandage.

4) Toy or doll
A nice pastime is to play. It is even nicer when you are doing so with familiar things. Also, if it were a doll, that could pose as a nice night time comfort object to remind Hana of home.

5) Water
Water is an essential to living. Hana didn’t know if where she was had clean, abundant water. This would be a very good thing to bring.

6) A book
Packing a familiar thing, such as book is a good idea. Especially if it is a favorite one. Reading is another great pastime - it lets you forget what is going on around you and reading will welcome you into the story.
