1. Kindness- I think that kindness is important because kindness will help you during life. Like, people who are nice work well in teams and co-operate with people better than people who aren’t kind.

2. Truthfulness- It’s important to be truthful because people will start to not trust you and no one will want to tell you anything. Everybody that you know will not tell you a single thing. People will think that once they tell you, you will tell everybody.

3. Enthusiasm- I think that enthusiasm is an important virtue because what’s life without enthusiasm? Every single day, you have fun. Like reading a story, playing with friends, watching a movie or even just watching the clouds. Also, no one wants to be friends with a grumpy person.

4. Gratitude- It’s good to be grateful for the things you have in your life. My parents always say that you should be thankful for the things you have because some people don’t have things that we do. They also say that if you were born in a poor family, you wouldn’t have food to eat and water to drink.

5. Cleanliness- It’s important to be clean because if you're not clean then you will stink and then your friends won’t want to be near you. They will just stay away from you until you take a shower.

Prudence - I think prudence is a good virtue because finding the good in all situations is always a good choice. If you are in the middle of an argument, try to make the argument stop or just try to not let the argument go any further. Jesus always had prudence because he finds the good in all situations. He also finds the good in people who are not as good as Jesus wants them to be.Jesus can stop bad situations like when he died on the cross. Jesus wants us to have prudence just like he did, he wants us to make situations better or maybe stop the arguments. Genius always gives it’s best at first; Prudence , at last.

Kindness - Kindness is a great virtue because Jesus had a lot of kindness. Jesus wants all humankind to be even just a bit kind. Jesus was kind to everybody he saw. Even people who had a lot of sins. The poor and the rich , Jesus cared about them all. Both poor and rich should and are grateful for what they have .One kind word can change someone's entire day.

Patience - Patience is very hard to have because if somebody is doing something you don’t want them to , you have to have patience with them. Another form of patience is the literal version which is like if you are waiting in line for something you have to be patient and wait your turn, also with your family and friends. Jesus wants us all to be patient like he was with all the bad people that wanted him to die, wanted him to be gone.Jesus was a great person so by being patient you can be a great person too.Have patience. All things are difficult before they become easy.

Faith - Have faith in God and believe in all good things . Some people may not have faith in God but one thing is for sure and that is I do. People have to have faith they could do something nice for someone. Have faith in God,Jesus, Mary mother of Jesus and the Holy Spirit.Faith is seeing light with your heart when all your eyes see is darkness

Gratefulness - I think gratefulness is very important because if you are not grateful for what you have , your friends and family will think you are greedy when they do something nice for you and you don’t want to be greedy because that is a bad virtue. If you are greedy and not grateful , you friends and family won’t do nice things for you and your friends may not even want to be your friends anymore . Jesus is very grateful in the bible stories because he gave people food who didn’t have as much as him. That is why we are giving different items to the homeless people in our country, because we are grateful like Jesus. A grateful heart is a magnet for miracles.

I think that the top 5 virtues are…

Number one, patience. I think patience is a virtue because when I think of someone who is virtuous I think of Jesus, and when I think of Jesus I never think that he said “ Hurry up ” or anything like that.
Number two, kindness. I think kindness is a virtue because when I think of someone with high moral standards ( like Jesus ) I know that they are very kind just like Jesus was when he did all of those miracles.
Number three, respect. I think respect is a virtue because Jesus ( a great role model ) thought everyone is equal.
Number four, tolerance. I think tolerance is a virtue because Jesus had a lot of tolerance and to be a better catholic you have to have some to.
Number five, hope. I think that hope is a virtue because Jesus had hope for the world to be a better place for all.

Top 5 Virtues

Fortitude: Sometimes it’s very hard to resist temptation. When people are mean to you, it’s very hard to not be mean back. It’s hard to eat something healthy rather than junk food. Jesus resisted the temptations of the devil. When the devil was offering Jesus something great, he resisted the temptation to take it, because he knew it wasn’t right. Although we don’t have the actual devil offering us something, it still applies to our lives. It helps us not give into the “devil” when it’s the wrong choice. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”

Patience: I think patience is a very hard thing to have. Not being greedy and hasty is something that is going to help you, and make people like and enjoy your company more. Jesus was very patient in the bible, although he was being punished because no one believed him, he wasn’t mean or cruel to anyone. He had faith that they would eventually realize who he was, and before they did, he was very patient and kind. “Have patience. All things are difficult before they become easy.”

Respect: Having respect for others, yourself, and all God’s creations is one of the most important things to have. Everyone is made in God’s image, so we are all beautiful and deserve to be treated kindly. Everything ― from kings and queens, to ants and bugs ― deserves to be treated with respect and care. “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

Charity: Sometimes, we have to stop looking at ourselves and look at other people. We should help others in need, and see everyone as someone God created and loves deeply, so we should love them too. It’s easy to only care about ourselves and what we want, rather than what others need. It’s much harder to shift the focus off ourselves and onto someone else. Jesus did this easily. He loved everyone and treated them kindly even if they didn’t love him back. We should look up to Jesus and aspire to be like him. “Love your neighbour as yourself.”

Kindness: Everything is related to kindness: Patience, respect and charity, but rather than respecting, or helping, or waiting, this virtue is possibly the most important of all. Smiling at someone. Complimenting their new haircut. Encouraging someone who's struggling. Opening the door for the little boy in the wheelchair. Giving a high-five to the person who beat you. Sometimes it’s hard to be kind to someone, especially when they don’t return the favour. But this is when it comes to Jesus. When he was betrayed, Jesus didn’t hurt Judas, he didn’t throw a fit. When he was crucified, he prayed for the people who were killing him. Jesus did the ultimate gesture of kindness when he died to save us from our sins. “One kind word can change someone’s entire day.”

-Faithfulness: I think this virtue is important because, it is important to have faith in the Lord. I mean, he’s the one that sent his only son down to earth, to be killed for the forgiveness of our sins. This virtue is also one of the commandments: “You shall have no other gods before Me.”

-Fortitude: I think this virtue is important because, you need to be able to resist the temptations of the devil, like Jesus did in the desert. Because if you don’t resist temptations, you will most likely sin a lot. And fortitude shows that you have self control.

-Kindness: Kindness is very important because you need to be kind with yourself, everyone around you, and even to the environment. This is what Jesus wants from us, to be kind to one another. It is also one of the ten commandments: “Love your neighbour as yourself.”

-Cooperation: I think this virtue is important because, if you can’t work with other people, you will have a hard time in life. The saying “Two heads are better than one” is very true. This is very true because you can do a lot of things with two people, that you can’t with one. Or, just do it faster. And to do this, you need a lot of cooperation.

-Humbleness: It is important to be humble because if you do a good deed, and then boast about it, it loses the whole purpose. And in one reading from the Bible,I don’t remember which one it is) it says that you should not let your left hand know that your right hand is giving to charity. And if you do, you already had your reward on earth, so you won’t get your reward after you die. So it is saying that if you do a good deed, you should not go around shouting about it, instead you should keep it between you and God.

I think the top 5 most important virtues are:

I: Respect - I think this is a good one because it makes people feel good about themselves and makes them accomplish more things

II: Justice - I think this is good because it’s the right thing to do and is a key for an equal world

III: Charity - Together Everyone Accomplishes More = TEAM. If everyone works together, we can reach past our limits.

IV: Temperance - Using things normally. Example: Throwing your least favorite food away, but shoving your favorite down your throat is not temperance. Eating your least favorite and favorite food normally is temperance. I think we should save more stuff, like if our decorative gourds get rotten, you could use them as a weird Halloween decoration.

V. Hope - In brief, without this one we would all be quitters. Hope allows us to keep trying and reach our goals. Like if you fail a math test, Hope might get you an A+ on the next one.

My top 5 Virtues

Patience- This one is very important because if you have patience you know that you can wait for things and not get frustrated if things take a long time - say, for a new video game to download or update. It’s an important skill to be able to wait for certain periods of time.

Respect- Also important because if you have this virtue you know that you are nice to everyone around you, plus yourself. Not just respecting yourself through hygienic ways, but since you respect others, they respect you back, so you are technically respecting yourself. In a way.

Discipline- This virtue is very good to have because then you know that you have the ability to make yourself do the right thing whether you want to or not. That means you will immediately do something people ask you to do even if you don’t want to. Well, unless it’s a bad thing, of course.

Charity- Being able to love others as or more than yourself is very good. It also means you love God even more, as he asks us to love him above all things. This also includes giving to the homeless.

Fortitude- Having fortitude is important because you can conquer fears and resist temptation. If someone tempts you to do something bad, that means you can choose not to do it. And if you have fears, you can get rid of them eventually.

Unknown said...

Kindness - It’s always good to be kind because kindness can lead to good friends who help you and cheer you up when you are sad. Jesus was definitely very kind. Being kind is also remembering your family members if they have passed away, you should visit their grave because that’s also being kind

Compassion - Everybody should be treated with compassion because everybody treats everybody with kindness but some people should especially be treated with the compassion, the people who fought in a war and sacrificed him/herself for others or the people who gave up all they had for others to have a home.

Patience - patience is very important because it leads to see who can wait for others if they went to the bathroom or who can wait in a line without complaining because that sets an example for others to see that one is patient or one is not. It’s not bad to not be patient or good to not be patient. Everyone is different and that’s ok but if you’re being really rude while waiting, that’s just rude.

Humility - Thinking of other people equally as you is very important because it shows how you can think of others in a way you want to be treated, It’s like the golden rule but in the form of a virtue.

Discipline - Discipline ties in with kindness towards your parents, teachers and Elders. Discipline usually means you're being well behaved which is extremely important towards your parents because they like being respected. Discipline usually is respectfulness.

Virtues

Creativity - I think this is a very important virtue because it is always good to be creative and never copy other people's work. Use your imagination and always add your personal touch.

Prudence - I think this is a very important virtue because finding the good in every situation is good because that means you can always stay positive and if something bad happens you can always turn it into something good.

Cooperation - I think this is a very important virtue because it is always good to cooperate with people, and work alongside other people. But you want to work with the right people you do not want to work with mean and rough people but you don't want to work with soft people. But you have to cooperate with people.

Determination - I think this is a very important virtue because it is always good to be determined and never give up. For example; let's say that someone wanted to climb Mount. Everest but they couldn't but they kept on going, that is determination.

Courage - I think this is a very important virtue because you have to be courageous and never back down. For example; if you wanted to go skydiving and you did not want to go, and you went, that would be courage.

My top five virtues
Faith. I think faith belongs on this list because: you need to believe in God and in his works to be a Christian and you need faith to help you with all virtues, and faith is the first step to being welcomed into Gods kingdom.

Fortitude. It is very in important resist` temptation lying and addiction, Having control over fears can help you make the right decision in hard times and resist temptation helps you in many harsh times.

Kindness leads to love and you must be kind to all people and living things. Kindness also makes you have friends and interactions you had no kindness than you would have no friends and be alone for your whole adult life.

Humbleness
I remember in a bible story/ Reading that said pray and give to the poor and help them but don’t go to the city square to pray after letting everyone know like the hypocrites do quietly in your know home and God shall know.

Forgiveness: the hardest virtue to have ( in my opinion) this means that you need to forgive others even if the had wronged you before whatever hate you hold against them must end it. Even if they have wronged you forgive them. Jesus forgave the Romans for killing him.

Hey guys,

I figured that I'd leave a quick message. My name is Katie, and I was in Mrs. O'Hara's 5/6 class from 2008-2010. Now I'm in university, and gosh does that make me feel old... Regardless, I like to browse this site periodically to see all of the amazing things this class is up to, as I have the most spectacular memories of all the fun learning experiences I had in that class.

I think that it's worth noting that all of your responses for this post really inspired me. There are a lot of very cruel and wrong things happening in this world today, especially lately, and I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to see a young generation of critical thinkers that recognize the absolute importance of virtues such as the ones you have named. Never underestimate where a little bit of kindness, compassion and empathy can take you. Keep up the amazing work, everybody- I can tell that you will all accomplish great things!

Most sincerely,
Katie :)

Top 5 Virtues

The top 5 virtues to me would be:

Patience - I think patience is a good virtue and an important one. Patience is good to have because without patience, you wouldn't be able to handle some people or a movie/book that has a cliffhanger. Having patience makes you a better person because you can handle things that take a little longer and some patience. Jesus had patience, no one believed him but Jesus had patience and he kept trying to convince them.

Determination - I think determination is important because if you didn't have determination, you would always give up. Having determination means that you don't give up, which is a very good thing. You try and try until you get it. Jesus was determined to convince everyone he was the son of god, he kept trying and trying.

Fortitude - Fortitude is a good virtue because it means you can resist something. If someone was trying to give you chocolate, for example, and you really love chocolate but, your parents said no more chocolate. You would not accept their offer because it may be a good offer to you but, your parents said no. Jesus had fortitude. The devil offered Jesus many good things but Jesus knew that it was not right to take them, so he didn’t.

Charity - Sometimes we need to take time out of our days to think about other people. We should help all the people who need our help and we should think of everyone as a friend and a creation of God. Everyday we think about ourselves, “Does my hair look good?” “Is my makeup running?” “I look like I’m homeless!” We have to think about other people too! “I think I’m gonna cut my hair and donate it to cancer.” “I’m gonna donate to the Sick Kids foundation.” “I’m gonna give the leftovers from dinner to that homeless person there.”

Respect/Kindness - These two tie in together. Having respect means that you would have respect for yourself, others and everything around you. You respect your parents, your friends, your life and yourself. As well as all the things God has created. Having kindness means that you would be kind to other people and the world around us. Kindness is helping someone up when they’ve fallen (I mean this in a deeper way) or making someone feel better when they are sad or hurt or even, just holding the door open for someone. The Golden Rules ties into to both respect and kindness, “Treat others the way you want to be treated.”

Virtue #1: I have ordered the top five virtues by how important they are. The first one is the most important to me. The first virtue is empathy. What is life without empathy? The answer is an uncomfortable world that makes no sense you couldn’t communicate, love be happy for someone else, to feel bad for them, the only things you feel are your own feelings. When you tell your parents you love them, without empathy that would mean nothing.

Virtue #2: The second most important virtue to me is kindness. What is life without kindness? The answer is a world of hatred, anger, aggression, and sadness. I wouldn’t want to live there

Virtue #3: The third most important virtue is patience. As they say patience is a virtue! And an important one too! If you aren’t patient, then I don’t know what… You would have a panic attack waiting in the line at, anything. That wouldn’t be fun.

Virtue #4: The fourth most important virtue is honesty. I would have it higher on my list, but this is what happened… Imagine life without honesty. You could be adopted, and you wouldn’t even know. There would be no such thing as lying, because everything would be a lie, how terrible.
Virtue #5: The fifth most important virtue is forgiveness. It seems like I don’t think forgiveness is that important (because I put it last), but it’s still in the top five, and there are so many other virtues I didn’t choose. So when you think about it, forgiveness is one of the most important virtues, not the least. If you don’t forgive people then how would you have friends? If everybody makes mistakes, and nobody’s perfect, then how could you hold a grudge for everything? You can’t.

Virtues

2016 11. 07.

I think the top five virtues are

Fortitude, because there are going to be a lot of tempting things in your life, so it’s good that you can withstand against them.

Prudence, because there is a lot of negativity in the world and being able to find goodness in the worst situations is important.

Patience, because you are going to have to wait a lot and in your life, so if you can hold within all of the waiting that is good.

Respect, because some people will just be really kind in life, it’s important that you show that you care that they make the effort to be nice all the time.
Kindness, because when you are kind people want to be your friend and when you are kind it not only makes other people feel good it makes yourself feel good.

Unknown said...

Patience: I chose patience because everyone has heard the saying patience is a virtue and a lot of people just brush it off, but to me patience is one of the most important because people need to wait and not expect to get things instantly. If you get things instantly without effort you won’t learn and you get lazy which is not good at all. So patience stops lazy people.

2. Cleanliness: I chose cleanliness because being clean is so important and not many people know that. Being clean is so important that if you don’t take the proper precautions then you will have a higher chance of getting sick. Which is so very very important to our culture seeing as we can get worse and worse illnesses nowadays.

3. Creativity: I chose creativity because creativity is so very important for everything. Without creativity the earth wouldn’t look as pretty. Without creativity the world wouldn’t be as advanced as it is today because creativity allows people to do crazy things that can lead to amazing technological and scientific and artistic advancements.

4. Cooperation: Cooperation is so very important because cooperation has lead to some very cool inventions like the plane or the hang glider. Cooperation is important because you can get things done faster if you have the right person working with you, if you have someone who is lazy and makes you do all the work which therefore means you are not working cooperatively. That is best case scenario, worst case scenario is your partner slows you down massively so you can’t meet the deadline of a project.

5. Authenticity: Authenticity is also very important because if you're doing plagiarized work and handing it in to your teacher or posting something on the internet you will definitely get in trouble. Which is a very good reason to not plagiarize something. However, authenticity goes way beyond plagiarization if you lie to someone you’re not being authentic, if you sell someone something for a price that will get you more money you’re not being authentic. All of these things are things you need to watch out for when you’re being authentic.

1.Justice. I think this is an important virtue because I think everyone deserves what they get. Good or bad. say bob gave 1k to charity he would deserve something good. And then lets say joe stole or destroyed, he would deserve something bad like going to jail to think about what he has done.

2.Charity. This one is an important virtue because giving to others is an important part of society, because when you give the world gives back! Also by working together is better we can work towards a better world. Together Everyone Achieves More = TEAM!

3.Hope. hope is very important because without hope and trust in christ, we would not be much, but with hope, hope for a better world and trust in christ. We can do anything we put our minds to.

4.Faith. I think faith is important because we need to believe in god and every thing he told us, we need to trust god and the promises he made us.

5.Prudence. I think Prudence is important because it is important to see the good in every situation, even the bad ones. Using it will lighten the mood, or situation.

Unknown said...

Kindness: I think kindness is a really important virtue. Being kind has two benefits. One for the person being kind, and one for the person receiving the kindness. People who are kind have better friendships too. Nobody wants to be around someone who is mean. Being kind will make you and the people around you happy.

Respect: I think respect is a really important virtue. Being respectful means you’re doing something like listening to what someone has to say. Being respectful to one another makes any sort of relationship work. Like student to teacher relationships, athlete to coach relationships, or employe to boss relationships, all need respect to work.

Patience: I think patience is a really important virtue. Patience is one of the harder virtues to have. We are in the “now” generation. Many people don’t want to wait for something because then they get bored.

Fortitude: I think fortitude is a really important virtue. In life there will be many challenges you have to face. You will need to have the fortitude to pass those challenges. Having fortitude means you can try new things, deal with difficult things, and face your fears. Without courage in your daily life it would be difficult to progress. It is impossible to be a good gymnast without fortitude. You can’t climb up on a balance beam that is four feet off the ground and five inches wide and do a back flip, without having fortitude.

Prudence: I think prudence is a really important virtue. Throughout your life there will be many bad situations. Having prudence means you can find the good in every situation and choose to do it. A person with prudence will easily solve the situation and will understand that the decisions they make will have outcomes. They think before they do.
