This is a picture of Jesus praying on the Mount of Olives. Jesus went onto the Mount of Olives with his disciples following him. He told them to pray, saying that they should so they should not fall into temptation. He went a stones throw away from them, knelt, and prayed. He prayed, and an angel came to strengthen him. Here is the passage from the Gospel:
"Luke 22:39-22:44-
Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them, “Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground."
The Mount of Olives is at the foot of the Garden of Gethsemane, Jerusalem. This place is famous for being the spot where Jesus and his disciples slept before Jesus' crucifixion.

The longitude and latitude of the Mount of Olives is:
31.7833° N, 35.2508° E
The coordinates of Gethsemane is:
31.7794° N, 35.2402° E

WITW by Cat and Katherine due 2014.04.17

This week’s Where in the World is on the Mount of Olives. The mount is in Jerusalem. Its latitude and longitude is 31.7792° N, 35.2449° E. The name (Mount of Olives) comes from the olive trees that grew once on the side of it.
The Garden of Gethsemane at the foot Mount of Olives is where Jesus went to pray with His disciples after the last supper. That is where He was betrayed by Judas and then arrested.

Luke 22
(After the last supper)
39: Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of Olives, and his disciples followed him.

47: While he was still speaking a crowd came up, and the man who was called Judas, one of the Twelve, was leading them. He approached Jesus to kiss him, 48: but Jesus asked him,“Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”

What is the name of the place?
The name of the structure is The Garden of Gethsemane.

Where is the place located?
The structure is located at the foot of Mount of Olives, Israel.
Latitude: 31.779402, longitude: 35.240197.

What is the historical significance of the structure?
The historical significance of The Garden of Gethsemane is that Jesus and his disciples
prayed there before he was betrayed by Judas and was arrested by the high priests.

“Matthew 26:36-46 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” 37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. 38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.” 39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me." When Jesus was praying, after he was done, he reminded the disciples a couple of times that they were supposed to stay awake, after a bit, Judas and the guards arrived, arresting Jesus and bringing him to the high priests. Before Jesus's arrest and praying at the garden, they were
having the last supper.

Garden of Gethsemane (Mount of Olives)

Location:
The Garden of Gethsemane is at the foot of the Mount of Olives. He visited the Garden of Gethsemane twice, including when he arrived on a donkey (palm sunday). It is at the coordinates 31° 46′ 45.85″ N, 35° 14′ 24.71″ E. Here is a piece from the Bible, when Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane. He went to pray to God because he knew he was going to die.

Matthew 26:36-46:
“36 Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.”
37 He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled.
38 Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”
39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”
40 Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Couldn’t you men keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter.
41 “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
42 He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
43 When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. 44 So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
45 Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour has come, and the Son of Man is delivered into the hands of sinners.
46 Rise! Let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”

How Does It Tie Into Holy Week?

This ties into Holy Week because this actually happened during Holy Week. Jesus went right to the Garden of Gethsemane right after The Last Supper to pray to God because He knew was going to die.
Not-so-Fun Fact:

It is said that, the night Judas betrayed him, Jesus was so stressed, he was sweating blood! This is a rare condition called Hematidrosis.

How is this event connected to Easter?
This event is connected to Easter because this is the beginning of Easter. Why we celebrate Easter. We celebrate it because Jesus fulfilled the scriptures, he opened the gates of heaven. He wanted us to be free from sin.
