Analyzing Text for the Big Idea.

Watch the following video about Tarra and Bella.  When you are finished, I would like you to tell me the “Big Idea“.
I am expecting you to write a paragraph to justify (prove) your thinking.  Remember to use specific images or comments from the video and connect them to the Big Idea.

Don’t forget to use the criteria:
- begin by using part of the question in your answer
- answer what is being asked
- provide 2 pieces of relevant evidence (this means it supports the answer you’ve written)
- for EACH piece of evidence, provide your own thinking by analyzing the evidence you chose
- edit your response

The "Big Idea" in the video is that if a elephant and a dog are best friends then why can't we be friends with someone that is different from us.
I think this because they even say in the video: " Take a good look America, take a good look world. If they can do it , what's our excuse?
I think that they are right, that if animals that are so different can become the best of friends, then, what excuse do we have to not even play with people that aren't even the slightest bit different? I also think that it is amazing that when Bella had a serious injury and couldn't move her tail, or walk, when she saw Tarra her tail started wagging.
It's like when I come back from a long trip and I see my friends again, I just go crazy because I love them!
PS: I think that this video was a good choice for bullying awareness week because it is kind of tied into bullying because we exclude people sometimes because they're not like us, but these guys are nothing like each other but they are best friends. Good picking videos Mrs.O'Hara!

The big idea is that Tara and Bella are best friends, even though they are different animals and that we should pay attention to this because they are able to do it, so why are we not. Some examples of this is that the reporter said "Take a good look America. Take a good look world. If they can do it, what's our excuse?". Another example is that Tara and Bella do EVERYTHING together, and they are very trusting of each other, they (even though this might sound silly) never fight, they just get along great. I think that there are few (if any at all) friendships like this among humans. I( also think that Bella being trusting enough to let Tara rub here belly is really cool.

"The big idea" is that it doesn't matter how big or small you are it matters what you are inside. Also it matters if you are good to them. Also that proves that if they can be friends why can't us the same species humans, can't be friends.

The big idea of that video on the blog was that if to very different animals like Tara and Bella which are elephants and dogs can be together, and care for each other and get along very well, then pople no matter how different size, colour and age or whatever difference they may have, we should be able get along together, so treat everyone the same! All that matters that what person are we and if we care\

The “Big Idea“ is that an elephant and a dog can be a best friend. Why can't we. It even says "If they can do it what's our excuse."
Why can't we? So what if someone is diffrent. So what if they did this or that. They are completely different. We aren't as different as them. All our knowledge, our beauty is useless without the skill of getting along and making friends. I think that we care too much about our knowledge, our beauty. We need this skill in life. To get along with other people, for others to be friends with us.
I read other stories about two different species that are friends. One story is when a dog and a bird that’s prey is animals the size of the DOG. See they are friends, Tarra and Bella are. Why aren’t we!

The vid asks “if they can do it, what’s our excuse?” I think the question means that if Bella and Tarra are so different, and they are best friends, why can’t we be friends with different people? The big idea is that if Bella and Tarra are so different and are really good friends, why are there people that can’t be friends with anyone who isn’t the same as them? If everyone was like Bella and Tarra, there would be no such thing as bullying, hate, war, dislike, and there wouldn’t be any mean people because everyone would like one another. I think to make a better world, everyone would love each other like Bella and Tarra do. I think too many people in the world think about differences, instead of things they have in common with other people.

The "*BIG IDEA*" in the video is that even though we are different in many ways, we can still be the best of friends.
I think that is the "*BIG IDEA*" because in the video, they say "Take a good look America. Take a good look world. If they can do it, what's our excuse?" What that means is that if an elephant and a dog can be best friends, why can't someone very different from another person be best friends? And I think that's right. It doesn't matter the size, the place you were born, your skin colour or anything else. Even though when you are completely the opposite, you can have the most fun you ever had in your life. Tarra and Bella are so close that the won't ever be separated. It's like that part when Bella had a spinal cord injury for three weeks and Tarra waited outside in the corner for three weeks. Even though Bella couldn't wag her tail, she did anyway when she wanted to see Tarra. That was like a miracle. It's like how I react when I see my friends. I can't bear to leave them because... THEY ARE THE BESTEST (I know bestest isn't a word but it is in my dictionary! ;D but anyway) FRIENDS IN THE WORLD!!! No offence to my old best friends who I don't see anymore.

The Big Idea of the video is that two completely different animals can be best friends. Tarra the elephant and Bella the dog are “two living creatures who somehow managed to look past their immense differences.” An elephant and a dog, what do they have in common? Not size, not looks. These two animals look into each others’ heart. They are the best of friends, not pre-judging each other by appearance. There are people in the world who judge a book by its cover, and Tarra and Bella are not like this at all. “If they can do it, what’s our excuse?” A very good question that we all should look at and really think about ourselves. Do we discriminate others by looks and not let them have a chance to be our friends? Also, if two totally different beings can be friends, why can’t we? What is our excuse to not be friends with someone different? The video shows a great example of true friendship and care, especially between two with a great many of differences.

One more thing, this video is good for us to look at because this past week was National Anti-Bullying Awareness Week. Like I said in my above response, "These two animals look into each others’ heart. They are the best of friends, not pre-judging each other by appearance. There are people in the world who judge a book by its cover, and Tarra and Bella are not like this at all."

I think the big idea in this story is they do not need to be the same animals to be friends but they can be different species of animals. “Take a good look America. Take a good look world. If they can do it, what's our excuse?" I think he is very right, Tara and Bella love each other and do everything together. They are very trustworthy of each other and do not let each other down. Sadly I do not know a lot of people that have bonds like this, and that seems quite stupid that animals do it and most of us don’t. P.S I love how Tara was sad when Bella was hurt and could not ply, I think that shows more of the bond in between them.

I think the big idea is that Tara and Bella are best friends no matter what they look like, sound like or smell like, only because what they’re like inside. “If they can do it, why can’t we?” They’re still best friends even though Tara is an elephant and Bella is a dog, if you couldn’t figure it out already since Tara held vigil for 3 weeks while Bella had a spinal cord injury, they always do everything together and they’re always together. I don’t think that there is many human friendships like this. It’s amazing how well animals can get along together, so why can’t we?

I think the big idea of this video is trying to tell everyone that, it doesn’t matter if someone is different on the outside, like if they look totally different from you, have different colour skin as you, or if they are way bigger, or smaller than you. It does not matter at all! What matters is what’s in the inside. Are you are very nice kind person that is caring, and has empathy for one and other? Or are you a mean person who is a bully, and only cares what you look like on the outside.

Like in the video, Tara (the elephant) and Bella (the dog) are very, very different in many ways, but they are best friends. They don’t care how different they look compared to each other, all they know is that they are best friends. So if animals can be friends even if they are really different from one and other, what is our excuse? Why do we have to bully? Why can’t we just accept everyone for who they are?

I think the 'Big Idea' of the video is that people shouldn't dislike others because of the way they look, or the way they speak, but the way they treat others, like the dog and the elephant did. The dog even let the elephant rub her tummy with her foot, which shows us how much they can trust each other. So why can't we trust other people that are just a bit different than us? Like the man in the video says: "Take a good look Amarica. Take a good look world. If they can do it, what's our excuse?

The “Big Idea” in this video about Tarra and Bella is that even though people may look different or talk different, that doesn’t matter because best friends come in all shapes and sizes and however you look, big or small you’re still a person (or in this case animal) and you should be treated that way. All the time people are bullied because of how they look, but if these animals, with enormous differences, come overcome that and become friends, why can’t we? I have two pieces of evidence that prove what I said is the “Big Idea”. The first one is this quote from the video:
“They harbour no fear, no secrets, no prejudices. Just two living creatures who somehow manage to look past their immense differences. Take a good look America, take a good look world! If they can do it, what’s our excuse?”
This is pretty much the exact thing I just said as you can tell so it’s, obviously, supporting what I said was the “Big Idea” another thing supporting what I said is another quote from the video:
“Finally tonight Steve Hartman proves best friends come in all shapes and sizes”
I actually said almost the exact thing above. I said:
“Best friends come in all shapes and sizes and however you look, big or small you’re still a person (or in this case animal) and you should be treated that way.”
So that’s basically the same thing.
I found this video very inspiring to make friends with people despite their looks and if I see someone being bullied because of their size or looks I will definitely step in and stand up.

The big idea in the video is that Tara and Bella are best friends even though they are different animals. It is means that we can be friends with people even if we are different than them, like how Tara is an elephant, and Bella is a dog.

Something that makes Tara and Bella real friends, is that Tara was worried a lot about Bella who had an injury, and couldn't move.

After a while, Bella was recovered, and Tara was so happy to see Bella happy again. That is what real friends do, and we should do things like that to others, like what Jack Will did in Wonder before Halloween.

I think that the main idea is that despite their huge differences, they are still the best of friends. In the video, it says,"I they can do it, what's our excuse?". I agree with the video. We often exclude people just because they aren't the same as us. It is kind of like in WONDER. August is like Bella, and Summer is like Tara. Everyone else is like all the other elephants. (Or, Summer might be a traitor too.) Summer and August are great friends, and the other elephants just couldn't care less. It also said in the video that Tara stayed by the sanctuary office for the whole time Bella was there. They were so excited when they saw each other after Bella could move. I still want to know how she injured her spine. And was the Tara and Bella video clip supposed to be for anti-bullying week? If it was then great choice!

I think that the big idea in this video is that if different species of animals like Tarra and Bella can get along so well why can't we humans because of simply colour of skin, nationality accent even, I mean these aren't the biggest differences in the world, it's very easy to look over that. but different species that would be hard to do to have a best friend that's an elephant it is hard to look over that but still they manage it. when the reporter said "if they can do it whats our excuse?" the truth is that we don't have one, the best one is people are generally afraid of difference but that is again our own fault it is not bad to be different. man up people!

I think the big idea in the video is that two completely different animals like Tara and Bella can be best friends, yet people judge other people (of the SAME SPECIES) about their religion, race, culture, and many other things, meanwhile Tara and Bella are like:

"So what? We're different. Who cares?"

I think that is a good attitude that everyone should have, making the world a happier place. :)

"If they can do it, what is our excuse?"

This is a good point. I agree with Luke; we have no reason WHATSOEVER! If this is where the human race is heading toward, judging everything they see, then we have some serious issues.

My opinion is that everyone should stop judging each other and enjoy the good things in life.

AAAAHHHHH!! Sorry, they deleted my indents. Please pretend they are at the beginning of each paragraph. Thanks!

I believe that the big idea in this video is that just because people are different doesn't mean you can't be friends with them.
In the video, Tarra (who is an elephant) and Bella (who is a dog) are best friends, even though they are different in looks and even species. At the end of the video, the newsman says this:
"Take a good look America. Take a good look world! If they can do it, what's our excuse?"
And I have to ask that question too. What is our excuse? Why do people have to be excluded from games and bullied just because they are different. Why do you have the right to bully somebody because they have different skin colour, or their cultural background is different, or because they are a different gender? How is that fair? WHY!?
I think this is very wrong, and I hope this stops. But hopefully, one day, everybody can get along without problems.

Dear Room 11,

I am inspired by your responses. It is nice to see how kind and reflective you are. I really liked the part when Bella lets Tarra rub her stomach with her huge foot - talk about trust!
Keep up the wonderful responses.

The "Big Idea" in the video is that no matter big or small no matter what species, anybody can be friends. I think that because in the video it said " Take a good look America, take a good look world. If they can do it , what's our excuse? I agree because if there are two animals, two different species, a huge elephant and a small dog can get along SO well, I think that two humans the same on the inside can get along just as well. Humans should not treat other people differently because of tiny differences. Like I already said, big or small, no matter what, anyone can get along.
