Literature Circle Assignment - Due Friday, May 24th

Character Commandant - Your job is to think about the main character or characters featured in the first two or three chapters of your book.  What are they doing?  What are they thinking of saying?  How are they feeling?  Are they facing any conflicts or problems?  Have they reached any epiphanies or made any insights or realizations?  Are they experiencing hardship or good fortune?  What details about the character(s) does the author reveal?
Task:  Generate five textual citations (page numbers) that contain noteworthy information about a main character or characters.  Summarize the material in one to two paragraphs for each textual reference.

During the first three chapters of my book the author is still narating, and the character dosen't really share anything. It is revealled that Jeffrey's parents and family died in a submerged car accident. It is also revealled that he was sent to live with his aunt and uncle. During a musical at school Jeffrey had a breakdown and ran away. After a year he got to Two mills, where he made quite a show. Jeffrey ran into a football game and kicked a pefect spiral. He also made a commotion with a girl, and got a book from her, which he refuses to put down. On page 48 and 49 I leanred that he is allergic to pizza, and that he didn't have pizza as a child. On page 26 and 27 Jeffrey played baseball with a giant kid, who got angry after Jeffrey hit home runs 5 times, on the 6th time the giant threw a frog, which Jeffrey softly punted and ran all the way to home. On poage ten the book states that for a year Jeffrey was missing before getting to Two Mills, nobody knows what happened during this time. To be continued...

Character Commandant
My book is the same as hewitts so the author is still narrating in the first three chapters. on page 28 little jeffrey magee turned into maniac magee because he has done some crazy things, such as through the entire chapter seven he hits six home runs. The last ball was not a ball at all it was a FROG! he bunted it and ran and made the rarest feat in baseball, a four bagger, that is basically when you bunt the ball and run all four bases for a home run. also on page 19 he saved a kid about ten years old from the scariest place in town in the backyard of 803 oriole street. On page 35 he stands up to the stone hard glare of Mars Bar the hardest eleven year old glare on the east end. On page 13 he borrows a book from Amanda Beale later, on page 44. maniac moved in with Amanda Beale, Hester Beale, Lester Beale Mrs. Beale and Mr. Beale. I am quite enjoying this book and will hope that more things like these will happen in the book later on(I also have this on a word doc, so don'tfreak out. Kyle Aidan)

pg # 1 Miranda’s mother:
Miranda’s mother wants to go to $20,000 Pyramid and got in after 3 years of trying. The $20,000 Pyramid is hosted by Dick Clark and has 2 rounds. A speed round and the winners circle. The speed round has 7 questions and you have to answer them as quickly as possible. A question could be “You use this to put food in your mouth - not a spoon, but a…”
“So Mom got the postcard today. It says Congratulations in big curly letters, and at the very top is the address of studio TV-15 on West 58th street.”

pg # 18 The Laughing Man:
The laughing man sleeps with his head under the mailbox. Nobody knows why. He also says weird things like “bookbag, pocketshoe”. He says it sort of like a chant: “bookbag, pocketshoe.”
““What’s a ‘pocketshoe’ anyway?”
“Pocketshoe,” he said, looking serious. “Noun: an extra shoe you keep in your pocket. In case someone steals one of yours when your head is under the mailbox.””

pg # 22 Sal:
Miranda’s best friend, Sal, got punched by one of the kids that usually stay in the garage.
“He made a fist that came up like a wave and hit Sal right in the stomach. Hard. Sal doubled over and gurgled like he was about to throw up and then the kid whacked him across the face.”

pg # 25-26 Miranda:
Mirandas mom had rules for life in New York City.
“1: Always have your key out before you reach the front door.
2: If a stranger is hanging out in front of the building, don’t ever go in - just keep walking around the block until he’s gone.
3: Look ahead. If there’s someone acting strange down the block, looking drunk or dangerous, cross the street, but don’t make it obvious. Make it look like you were planning to cross the street all along.
4:Never shoe our money on the street.”
Miranda had her own trick as well. If she’s afraid of someone on the street, she’ll turn to them and ask them, “Excuse me, do you happen to know what time it is?” This is her way of saying, “I see you as a friend, and there is no need to hurt me or take my stuff. Also, I don’t even have a watch and I’m probably not worth mugging.”
So far, It’s worked pretty well.
