YEP Launch Event: Paul Tough on How Children Succeed
What is the gist of Paul Tough's opinion on what makes children successful? Do you agree? Explain your answer. What traits do you possess that you think will make you successful and explain why? (Post your answer.)
Paul Tough's opinion on how children succeed is that it doesn't matter about the childs IQ, the things that really matter are the traits that children have such as grit, curiosity, and optimism. I do not agree with Paul Tough because children need a high IQ and those important traits to succeed in life. Some skills that I possess that make me successful is determination, grit, focus etc.
I think that the gist of Paul Tough's opinion on what makes children successful is their character. Or like he Paul Tough said " They include skills like grit, curiosity, self control, and optimisum." So the gist of what he's saying is that it isn't the IQ points that matter, but it's the character of the student that is really important. -Lindsay
Paul Tough's opinion on what makes sucsesful children is that most people belive that it is about the childrens IQ and they use many wrong strategies but he belives it is about skills like grit, optimism, curiosity, and self control are only some of the skills you need to be a succsesful child
Paul Taugh's opinion on what makes kids successful is that they need optimism, grit, curiousity, and self control. I agree because they are good qualities to have and they can help you to be successful, like you should be optimistic, you shouldn't be negative or chances are you people might not like you. And you need curiosity because you need to be curious about what you're doing or it won't be as interesting so you probably won't care. I think some traits that make me successful are creativity and curiousity and persistence.
Like Kyle, Paul Tough`s opinion on how Children Succeed is... "...What really matters in a childs success is his or her IQ, that it`s that narrow band of skill, that gets measured on standorised tests that make a difference of when children succeed or fail, I think it`s behind our nationality of testors..." I disagree on Paul`s opinion, because it is the IQ that determains whether or not a child will succeed or not.
I think that the gist of Paul Tough's opinion on how children succeed is that the IQ of the child in question fortels how well they succeed. Paul thinks that the true things that make children succeed are traits such as Optisim, Grit and Curiosity. I (kind of) agree with Paul's opinion, because you (most of the time) do need a good IQ to succeed, but also you need those great character traits. -Aidan
I know that Paul says that we need curiosity, optimism, and grit and so one. Iknow that I think so to. I think that way because I know that IQ doesn't make you smart. It's true and clear to me that IQ is how you learned, not what you learned. Not about what you know, rather how you know it. IQ is best esxplained as you learning level. How fast you process and solve things. It is the you in you, and what you really learned. What Paul has said is that people found that grit, curiosity, and optimism matter more than IQ. In the whole, after my long theory was stated, I have to say I agree
I think that his opinion was that the most important key for a child's success is the child's character, which I agree with completely, epesially if they are willing to learn, because if they are not willing to learn, they will not pay attention, they will be looking around, and won't be learning anything.
The gist of Paul Tough's opinion on how children suceed is that a child's grit, curiosity, conscenciousness, self control, and optimism are the same as or even more improtant that their IQ. I believe that a child's traits are a little bit more important than their IQ. I think that 1)curiosity and 2)loving to learn will make me successful because 1)you can learn about whatever you are curious about and 2) if you don't like to learn but you are curious, you are in a jam. In conclusion, if you are curious, you should also love or like to learn.
Well the gust of Paul Tough's spech is that q pontse don't matter it is the micherity of the child and the cereosity of the cild hunger for noleg is agubly more importent then iq pontes. My over all disistion is that I do think that ceriosity and est... is more inportent then noleg in a spasific catigory.

I think that the gist of paul tough's opinion is: child success matters a bit on IQ but mainly about traits such as grit, curiosity and optimism. I do agree with him because a child needs curiosity to be a scientist etc. etc. and you need grit to get things done. I am curios and I have grit
Paul Tough says that children need traits like grit, curiosity and optimisum and that is important like IQ. I agree that we need these traits because they are important things a kid should have.
The message that he is portraying is that for kids to sucseed they need to have good qualities, such as, 'grit, curiosity, optimism and self control, also a kids character is great for determining kids sucsess rate to. The skills that I have that would be great in helping with my life are being asertive and having superior verbal reasoning skills, these skills would help in an argument and with getting my oppinion in other peoples minds. I agree with what he says because it requires charecter and IQ to get somewhere in life, but I couldn't understand what he was saying and had to refere to other peoples posts to get the idea. Also if you are really optimistic, but not so smart, you will not sucseed, and if you are really smart but don't have character, then you will not sucseed, so a mix of both is required, and I think that is what paul says.
