Do you think Minecraft should be used as an educational tool? Using Minecraft and the Science themes of: Gr. 6 - The Solar System & Gr. 5 - Conservation of Energy & Resources, can you come up with an educational and interesting activity? How has Minecraft been used to explore the world of Harry Potter?

I think minecraft should be used as a educational tool and also i know for a fact that i can say That Gabriel and Mitchel agree. The only things is if we were to make a server i suggest we do not use mine Me Micheal and Gabe ONLY!!!
I think we should be able to use Minecraft for educational uses because we need to add fun to our digital learning. Also Minecraft has many different ways of learning like: writing on signs, making things for projects, and many more things. Finally Minecraft helps us in places like measurment, patterning, and math. P.S. Get Minecraft if you don't have it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The gr.5s can learn about conserving energy because in minecraft you use coal to cook/smelt things so you need to cinserve coal and not waste it. Also the gr.6's can make a small sized version of our solar system while making the planets the appropriate sizes compared to each other. The gr.6's could also make a scale model of a solar eclipse.
I found a sit that said"With its open-ended nature and robust creation tools, Minecraft has been used to create some amazing things. And as one teacher learned, those very same elements that make the game so compelling also make it a great educational tool. Around two months ago, Joel Levin, a computer teacher at Manhattan's Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School, decided to start using the game to teach an entire unit to his syudents and it was a huge hit" so i think we should use it. And many of the students in our class play.
I think that minecraft would be a great educational tool it could teach you about energy and how to conserve it. The activity is to build a house and heat it. minecraft connects to harry potter by building places and buildings from harry potter.
I don't know much about Minecraft, since I just started, but I think it would be a good education tool, it would probably get all the students focused and excited to learn, and on the plus side, it would add lots of fun to the curriculum! For the Harry Potter thing I don't know but I think it would be cool if we made like King's Cross Station, Hogwarts, Hogsmeade, The Burrow, Hagrid's Hut, and all that stuff that it would take me forever and like one billion and one lines to name :) but I think it's a good idea! I think I've used up enough lines and energy (see, I'm adding what I learned in science!) so um yeah, I hope I proved my point!
