The Collegiate Church of St Peter at Westminster, popularly known as Westminster Abbey, is a large, mainly Gothic church, in Westminster, London, England (UK), located just to the west of the Palace of Westminster

Westminster Abbey is a collegiate church governed by the Dean and Chapter of Westminster, as established by Royal Charter of Queen Elizabeth I in 1560, which created it as the Collegiate Church of St Peter Westminster and a Royal Peculiar under the personal jurisdiction of the Sovereign.

This Friday, Prince William be married to Kate Middleton in this church making them one of the many royal weddings in that church. They will also be the first royal wedding there since 1986 when The Prince Andrew, Duke of York, second son of Queen Elizabeth II, was married to Miss Sarah Ferguson.

This week’s where in the world is Westminster Abbey. It is located in Westminster, London, England 51°N and 0°W.
The Westminster Abbey is a popular name for the Collegiate Church of St. Peter at Westminster. It is west of the Palace of Westminster. It is very large and mainly a Gothic church meaning that it is composed of slender vertical columns and pointed arches. Many English citizens were buried here. Above the side entrance is a statue of the Virgin Mary carrying the young crowned Jesus. Generally royal couples marry here. There hasn’t been a wedding since Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson married in 1986. On April 29th, 2011 Prince William will marry Kate Middleton starting at 3:00. My friend tells me that in England all the kids get to skip school to watch the wedding. LUCKY!
