Mardi Gras is French for Fat Tuesday. Fat Tuesday was the last day to eat food with animal fat in them before Lent. People had to use up their milk and meat products before Lent. Catholics would also spiritually prepare themselves for Lent by receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation.

I learned that "carnival" means to remove meat. A carnival was used by the Catholics to remove all the things, like meat and dairy, that will spoil over Lent. Families would get together and eat the food together.

I know that I'm supposed to do only one thing, but I just want to do 3.

1. The most popular celebration of carnival began in Louisiana in 1837 and today mostly known as Mardi Gras.

2. The most popular form of entertainment during Mardi Gras are the PARADES!

3. Mardi Gras is the most recognizable holiday in Brazil.
