DRAGONS?

From the BBC’s Life series, two weedy seadragons dance into the night
Living off the coast of south Australia, weedy seadragons (Phyllopteryx taeniolatus) are the only known species along with sea horses and pipefish – where the male carries the eggs. Although the eggs start out in the female, she lays about 120 of them onto the tail of the male where they are then fertilized and develop until they hatch.
Feeding on plankton, larval fishes and small shrimp-like crustaceans, seadragons resemble swaying seaweed making them difficult to find in their natural habitats, even though they can grow to about 46 cm in length.

What characteristics do you observe in the weedy seadragon and the komodo dragon that you observe in dragons? Post your answers.

  1. First of all I will cover on the Komodo dragon.

Without watching the video I already know some things about it similar to dragons. From the Komodo dragon's appearance you can tell it is reptilian like, large, and has scaly skin similar to what we think is a dragon. even they way it walks its similar, it walks slowly swaying its body left to right. Since its the largest lizard in the world we can already tell it has similar to other dragon like animals like crocodiles and other smaller lizards like mine!

Now I will be covering the weedy sea dragons.

Weedy sea dragons my be the total opposite of Komodo dragons they still have similar traits to dragons.
some dragons believe to live underwater like they do. They have scaly like skin and float around majestically in the water. Even their appearance with their long thin body with a large tail and rough looking fins. This is very of topic but even some Pokemon that look very much like this are considered a "dragon type".

Do you see the similarity? :)

  2. Komodo dragons:
Here are some traits that I think are similar to our "dragons":
-Komodo dragons are scaly and large, it even has a long tail.
-Komodo dragons are reptiles, and most dragon-like creatures are reptiles, or something with scales.
-They look similar to the dragons we imagine in books and illustrations, except they don't have wings and don't fly, as well as they don't breathe fire(I'm not saying that all dragons do that).
-Komodo dragons also have dragons in its name. Most creatures that have a certain names in its name are similar (example: Tiger shark, it is a shark with "Tiger" or the "certain name" in it's name, and it has that because it has stripes like a tiger") so the person who named it might have thought it was similar to a dragon in some way.
(Sorry that explanation might have been unclear, I didn't really know how to explain it)

    Weedy sea dragons:
-Weedy sea dragons are similar to dragons. They also have scales, just like how Komodo dragons do and many other reptiles do. They also have fins, which do resemble our "dragon's" wings. They also have a long thin body, and it looks like they have a tail as well, which our "dragons" have.

  3. Weedy Sea dragons move in the water like dragons fly in the sky. Komodo Dragons Move on the ground like dragons move on the ground. And all together, both the Weedy Sea dragon and the Komodo dragon have a bit of a dragons shape, with the feet, tail and body of the Komodo Dragon being dragon-like, and the head and some of the body of the Weedy Sea Dragon being Dragon

  4. Komodo dragon:
-They run and walk like how you might imagine a dragon might run and walk.
-They both have that same snout and face as you would imagine a dragon might have.
-They are reptile like what we think dragons are.
-They are scaly and muscular and they kind of have the same tail as a dragon.
-They are carnivores. We think that maybe dragons are carnivores (but we’re not sure).
They are big! Can get to about 3m and weigh about 330 lbs (150 kg). That makes them the largest lizard in the world!
-They are deadly! With their sharp claws and deadly poisonous venom, like dragons they are dangerous.

    Weedy sea dragons:
-Their odd shape and fins which is used for camouflage can look like the wings, tail, spikes and the frills of a dragon.
-They have the scaly skin of a dragon.
-The way they swim and dance in the water reminds you of a dragon flying.

  5. A little continuation from my post.

The scaly skin of the Komodo and it's swaying body movement makes it very similar to a dragon. The Weedy sea dragons body movements and shape of head and body make it also similar to a dragon. It's skin also represents the rough skin of a dragon.

  6. First I’ll speak about the komodo dragon
Like most dragons the komodo has scales and a tail, now some dragons have a forked tongue dragons don’t have this or at least not that we know of bacteria in their mouths that are like poison. The komodo dragons also have claws. They are very large like dragons. Also they have short necks like some dragons.

    Now the weedy sea dragon
They have spikes or spike like things on their tail and some dragons have spikes on their tail.
It looks like the weedy sea dragon has wings on the top of its back.

the weedy sea dragon is thin and has a long neck like some dragons.

  7. a) Weedy Seadragons - Some characteristics that I observe in weedy seadragons that I also observe in dragons (from stories) are:
    1. both animals lay eggs
    2. they have a similar tail structure
    3. there are spikes on the weedy seadragons’ tail, and some dragons have spikes on their tail.

    b) Komodo Dragons - Some characteristics that I observe in komodo dragons that I also observe in dragons are:
    1. both animals are reptiles (or, at least, dragons are similar to reptiles)
    2. both animals have scales
    3. both animals are, in general slow and a little bit lazy, but when provoked they will move very fast
    4. both animals lay eggs
    5. both animals will bite their prey in order to kill it
    6. both animals have claws
    7. both animals will (at some point in their life) go to points of high elevation to protect and/or hide themselves from predators (or prey)
    8. both animals are very, very big.

  9. Komodo Dragons:
Their scaly body and powerful arms and legs are traits very similar to dragons. Also, their forked tongues look kind of like little flames. They're both pretty dangerous too.

    Weedy Sea Dragons:
Their general body shape already looks kind of like a dragon; they have fins where a dragon's wings would be, they have a long tail with things that resemble spikes, and they have a dragon-like neck.

Oh, yeah, they also both lay eggs, just like dragons.

  10. The komodo dragon is dangerous and has a snake like tongue like how dragons are also dangerous (well most dragons…), have a snake like tongue also (thats my imagination) and it looks like they both have a long snout. Komodo dragons and most dragons also have scaly skin and are both pretty fast (dragons are probably fast at flying if they have wings and in the video komodo dragons can run really fast as seen in the video). The last four simple things I found they have in common are that they both have the word dragon in their name, have a long tail, walk on four feet (again for the dragon part thats my imagination), and lay eggs because they are reptiles, not mammals.

The weedy sea dragon also has the word dragon in its name, has long snout and tail and lays eggs too. The things it doesn't have in common with komodo dragons but with dragons, is they have long necks and the dragon can have a long neck too, and seaweed like fins where a dragons wings are supposed to be also.

  11. Comparing Leafy Sea Dragon and Dragons:

The shape of the sea dragon is unusual. The head looks a bit like a sea horse, but the body of the creature resembles a dragons body. The fins are kind of like its wings, which help it glide gracefully through the water. And both dragons and Leafy Sea Dragons have scales.

    Comparing Komodo Dragon and Dragons:

The Komodo Dragon is large, 3 meters or 10 ft length, and very scaley, like dragons. Their claws resemble dragon claws. They kind of look like crocodiles and smaller lizards that resemble dragons. And some dragons are imagined to be very aggressive, and some Komodo Dragons are really aggressive. They can run faster than most humans, as the video said. The tale is long, and it looks like a dragons tale.
I could imagine this being a dragon, just if only it had wings...

  12. These are some of the characteristics I observe in the weedy sea dragon and komodo dragon that I would observe in a dragon:
    - They are all sort of scaly / have scales on them
    - All of them lay eggs
    - Komodo dragons are pretty scary / dangerous just like dragons
    - Some types of komodo dragons are really just like some dragons
    - Weedy sea dragons live underwater just like some dragons
    - When weedy sea dragons swim / dance underwater, to me it looks like dragons flying in the sky
    - Komodo dragons have claws like dragons
    - The tail on the komodo dragon kind of looks like the tail of a dragon
    - The spikes on the weedy sea dragons tail reminds me of some dragons with spikes on their tails
    - The komodo dragon and weedy sea dragon both have “dragon” in their name
    - The komodo dragon can be very fast like a dragon
    - The weedy sea dragons are very colourful like most dragons
    - All of them can camouflage very well

This unit is very cool and interesting! I had fun learning about the komodo dragon and the weedy sea dragon! ;)

  13. I’ll start with the Weedy Sea Dragon

-It has a tail, just like a dragon

-The way it swims in the water resembles the way a dragon flies

-It lays eggs, like a dragon does

-It has scaly skin, like we say a dragon has

Now I’ll do the Komodo Dragon

-It also has a tail ,like the Weedy Sea Dragon, and the Dragon

-It is very dangerous, like a Dragon is

-It has sharp claws, like the Dragon

-It has sharp teeth, like a Dragon

-It is scaly, like a dragon

-It is a big, huge reptile, like a Dragon is.

-It only eats meat, like a Dragon (I think that Dragons are carnivores, but I’m not sure

    Thats it…
